WHA's superior results in government relations and its impactful advocacy for its members are well-known. The WHA Advocacy Day aims to inform and motivate employees in the health care industry, trustees and volunteer groups on health-related issues. It also encourages grassroots advocacy.Participants can advocate for their hospital by participating in legislative visits to their state. Each year, national speakers provide timely insights on state and federal issues affecting health care.

In 2023, WHA's annual Advocacy Day, which was the first to be held in person after the pandemic, saw the participation of nearly 1,000 hospital and healthcare leaders, providers and staff, trustees, and volunteers. Former governors Jim Doyle and Tommy G. Thompson spoke at the event, which also featured a speech by the current governor. Tony Evers, a bipartisan panel of state legislators including Rep. Mark Born (R - Beaver Dam), Rep. Evan Goyke - (D - Milwaukee), Sen. LaTonya - Johnson (D - Milwaukee) and Sen. Pat Testin - (R - Stevens Point).
